Clear guidance on what to look for and when to award points.
The National Green Building Program Verifier's Resource Guide (PDF) provides clear guidance on what to look for and when to award points during the rough and final inspections of homes submitted for certification.
For Verifiers
The Resource Guide explains every step in the verification process and provides all the instructions a verifier will need to verify a home's score. For each line item, the Guide specifies documentation that the verifier should receive from the builder, and lists tasks the verifier should perform to verify points claimed.
In addition to completing the requisite training and accreditation testing, every verifier will need to keep a current copy of the Resource Guide handy as a reference for each inspection in addition to using a separate copy of the Verification Report for each home inspected to document the complete green home verification process.
For Builders
Builders applying for green home certification should review the Resource Guide. Scoring a home with the Green Scoring Tool provides a good baseline of what is required, but the Resource Guide will provide insight for how the verifier will inspect the home. Knowing what the verifier needs to see will help a builder prepare for inspections, and make the verification process easier.
